Today, Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod (D-Chino) officially announced her post as co-chair of the Congressional Water Caucus, a bipartisan caucus focused on raising awareness of the geographically unique water issues facing the nation to help address them in Congress.

"As Congress begins its second legislative year, the issue of water sustainability in California, particularly in the Inland Empire, must be a priority for Congress to address," explained Negrete McLeod. "A clean, safe, abundant water supply is a top priority for not only my constituency, but for many Americans. Now is more important than ever we begin to address the issue of drought that has impacted the southwest portion of the United States for many years."

Congresswoman Gloria Negrete McLeod has been actively involved in local water issues for over a decade. As former Chair of the California State Senate Select Committee on Ground Water and Perchlorate Contamination, Negrete McLeod called for a swift litigation process and encouraged local officials to hold polluters accountable for groundwater contamination in the area.

"The Inland Empire community has had a history of contaminated ground water, one of which we have worked hard for many years to address," explained Negrete McLeod. "Only when we work together in a bipartisan fashion have we seen results in holding polluters accountable. I will take this same approach as co-chair of the Bipartisan Water Caucus to address water issues facing the country."
